Updates

June 14th, 2006

We have released a few updates to Synapse containing the following bug fixes:

  • The Function Layer, Weight Layer and Hebbian Layer  components can now lock/release the number of features when changed manually in settings browser. See more detailed explanation below.
  • Plots now save the number of input features to their XML definition.
  • A bug in the Generalized Hebbian Algorithm that caused the principal components to be incorrectly scaled has been fixed.

To get the latest updates, make sure that you have automatic updates turned on and that you have a working Internet connection and Synapse will handle the rest. This update contains 5 components and is 452 kb in size.

Feature change hierarchy explained

When you connect components in design mode in Synapse you might have noticed that the number of input and/or output features gets adjusted automatically. This is done through a hierarchy of priorities that the verification system adheres to.

An input or output (actually any port) can have one of the following, in descending order:

Fixed (sources and other components whose features can’t be changed)
Resistant (components where the user has manually entered the number of features)
Reluctant (the FunctionLayer for example)
Fluid ( Weight layers, plots etc)

This means that for instance when a component that has a resistant output is connected to a component that has a reluctant input, the second component’s input will be automatically adjusted to fit with the first component’s output.
